New Website & Logo
The Edmonds Petanque Club is an active recreation group based out of Edmonds, Washington. Initially, they were looking for advice on how to manage content on their website. After taking a look, I noticed a very outdated WordPress CMS. Having worked in WordPress, I understand its limitations and difficulties. I felt the best way to help the group was to build a new WordPress website with an easy-to-use front-end builder called Divi by Elegant Themes. Along the way, we decided to do a minor update to their logo as well.

Background
Foodlifeline participated in a University of Washington graduate-level Communications Leadership class in which groups of students formed mock agencies and competed to win a bid to design a comprehensive digital communications strategy. Our task was to research and address the client’s communications goals and pitch a digital strategy demonstrating a cost-efficient plan. Of the five groups, ours was chosen to present our strategy to the board members and staff of Food Lifeline. What an honor!

Creating a Novel Look and Feel While Integrating the Familiar
Discovery
The Edmonds Petanque Club is a recreation and social club that is highly active in the Edmonds community. They raise money for local charities, sponsor events, and provide a healthy social and physical outlet for many Edmonds residents. While they’re digital communications needs were basic, they’re website was not easy to use. In addition, the logo seemed a bit outdated. However, the artwork was a beloved element to the logo. The club was interested in seeing an updated design, yet hesitant to replace the club’s original identity.
Research
We looked at Petanque Club websites across the nation and picked out favorite features and elements we thought will help the club communicate its activities, news, and events to new and existing members.
Staging and Import
After deciding on the best theme, plugins, and logo elements, we went to work importing the old website to a staging subdomain. Creating this domain served as a way to make changes to the old website, practice with the new theme, and try out new features and plugins without harming the primary website.
Final Design Work
After working through the major changes on the staging website, we imported the website to the primary domain, did a little clean-up, added the new logo, and finished up the main pieces of content for the group.
